What is Asian Ginseng Root?

Asian Ginseng Root, also known as White Ginseng, is a powerful herb derived from plant roots; it’s been used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine. A highly prized antioxidant force, Ginseng is thought to bolster the immune system, and its energizing abilities may help combat fatigue. It can also help the body recover from many types of severe illness, promote longevity, and extend life.*

Asian Ginseng is one of several types of Ginseng. American Ginseng, Korean Red Ginseng, and South China Ginseng are other common varieties; however, they may vary in the nutrients that they offer.

What are the Benefits of Asian Ginseng Root?

What the different types of Ginseng have in common are their ginsenosides, which are the compounds that purportedly give Ginseng its beneficial properties. Studies have shown that they can reduce blood sugar levels, inhibit tumor growth, and improve cognition.*

Ginseng Root in Traditional Chinese Medicine

Ginseng has a variety of uses in Traditional Chinese Medicine—an adaptogen, aka Superior Herb, it’s especially adept at strengthening Qi, or energy, to counter weariness and shortness of breath while fueling the body.

Its greatest quality in TCM is its ability to supplement Yuan Qi (the “source” energy for all organs and organ systems in the body). It is used in cases of extreme fatigue and exhaustion, and recovery from severe illness. It also  replenishes the Qi of the Lungs (as mentioned above for shortness of breath and fatigue). Also, due to the Lungs’ connection to the immune system in TCM, nourishing Lung Qi promotes a stronger immune system.

It is used to strengthen the Qi of the Stomach and Spleen (the center of digestion) and can help recover from eating disorders which damage and weaken the energy of the digestive system.

It also helps generate fluids of the digestive system which can be damaged by conditions such as diabetes. Finally, it can also be used to treat impotence in men.*
